Buses & Me….

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

I’ve been thinking for a while that a documentary about people and their different bus routes would be a really good film. I mean take me for example, I live in an area that has a high population of bus routes. The reason I miss buses is because of this “blessing”. Do not be fooled by good bus service, THIS IS A CURSE. I wait at one bus stop for ten minutes and in my impatience I start the walk to the other bus stop slightly up the Terenure road. En route to this stop, the bus I had been waiting on for the last ten minutes speeds by. So I think to myself “Grand I’ll just chill there until the bus comes to this stop”. While waiting several other buses visit my previous stop. So I think I’ll head back over there. On my way over the road back to my original destination, a bus speeds right by me.

I think the lesson to be learned is to never leave your original bus stop. It’s like the Bus Gods see what your game is and do everything in their power in order to mess with your life.

We played a show in the Hideaway House there on Monday and it was definitely one of the best things I’ve ever been apart of. When I was younger I used to think that a big venue was the be all and end all but recently especially in Find A Way all I want is to play in a tiny little room with people in my face.

I was listening to Homegrown and Allister (Kings of Pop and Last Stop Suburbia, not the sketchy cd’s) all week while doing coursework. Revisit your youth and the world is your oyster.

A new September…..

I didn’t realise English Lit had anything to do with anti-enlightenment.

I also snotted myself on Nassau Street this morning running for the bus. One minute I’m legging it across the road, the next I’m lying on the ground. I get up and some horrible American tourist is laughing at me, fuck sake. I don’t think I’ve fallen over in a while. I fell in Ciara’s house a while back. But I’m not really that sort of person. I mean my brother falls over all the time so he’s used to it. But it’s an awful shock when one minute everything is grand and the next your face down looking at years old chewing gum that has been ridden into the gorund a few hundred thousand times.

I must have still been daydreaming about Jennifer Love Hewitt, I watched Can’t Hardly Wait last night and she used to be the best. If you can check out Trojan Wars, the older brother out of Boy Meets World is in it. The Wackness is good Josh Peck is weird but Ben Kingsley is the man.

I desperately want to listen to Saves the Day but alas there is some over qualified goon waffling in the background.

The Celtic and Ireland connection….

I don’t know what it is about Celtic for Irish people. Obviously I’m aware of all the obvious reasons but I actually don’t know why people give a shit. I’m one of those people who cares. Take Sunday for example when they were beaten 4 - 2 by Rangers. I mean why does it matter to me that a mediocre team in a shit league was beaten by another mediocre team from the same shit league. When they started showing the coverage of the league there a few years ago I watched alot of the games and most of the time you’re just dieing for Hearts or Hibernian to do the business. That said when Celtic lost on the last day of the season I was heartbroken, when they were beaten by Porto in the Uefa Cup Final I was heartbroken, when Larsson left I was heartbroken, when they signed that dipso Paddy McCourt I was heartbroken. I’ve never owned a Celtic jersey or avidly followed the team but when some major shit goes down I care just like everybody else who supports football in Ireland.

I think it is something that comes with the territory, I mean it just feels right when Celtic beat Rangers at Ibrox. And better when they aren’t in Europe and Celtic are.

This came to me yesterday when I walked into the stockroom in work when two of the lads who support United and Liverpool respectively, who I’ve never heard talk about Celtic but endured hours of bollocks about Gerrard and Ronaldo were both wearing Celtic jerseys and listening to the game on the radio. It’s a weird one isn’t it?
